Coast Guard Headquarters is requesting urgent technical support for hurricane relief efforts.

NOTICE: Update 15 September 2005:  FEMA has advised that it now has enough applicants to draw from to fill their IT Technical support needs.  Therefore the application process has been suspended.  You will be contacted directly by FEMA if you are selected.

Thank you for your overwhelming support and response to the hurricane recovery efforts.

Update 10 September 2005:  HQ has been advised that members selected for IT technical support will be paid an hourly rate of $23.41 and an overtime rate of $29.95.  FEMA will also provide travel to the duty site, and provide housing.  Members selected to assist will be contacted directly by FEMA (the actual contact process began yesterday).  Please be patient as we have no additional information at this time, and *if* you are selected full details will be provided at that time.

Update 10 September 2005: Thank you to everyone who has responded to the call for technical support by completing an online application.

We have had an overwhelming response (almost 500 applications to date), and as we are not involved in the actual selection process we are uncertain of what the total need will be or when/if any particular person will be called upon.

As additional details do become available we will post them on the above web page as updates.  If you are selected, you will be contacted directly by FEMA or a Coast Guard representative with the specifics of your particular assignment.

Best Regards,

Jeff Mahl, Chief, Department of Information & Communications Services

05 September 2005: FEMA is looking for people with the ability to keep a communications suite up and operational.  This includes computers, a satellite link, and radios.  Training will be provided so specific knowledge is not required.  This is categorizing the need as someone with an technical background that is easily trainable and can follow directions over the phone to troubleshoot computer, LAN and radio equipment.

If you meet the basic criteria, and are available as indicated below, please complete and submit the following form.

We will get back to you with more details, if you are called upon.

Thank you for your support in this time of critical need,

Jeff Mahl, Chief, Department of Information & Communications Services
